RESEARCH: Horror

Horror films are designed to unsettle and frighten the audience as well as arousing the curiosity of the audience to keep them watching the film. They aim to evoke the general audiences fears. The worst fears are a climax towards the end of the film. They deal with the human beings more primal nature and the fear of venerability, alienation, the unknown and ultimately, death. Some successful films include:
- The Saw Trilogy
- The Shining
- The Ring

Sub-Genres:
- Science Fiction: The Science Fiction sub-genre of Horror is usually based around the corruption of technology. This is a fear that many modern day people have so it will scare the audience more. Aliens and other extra terrestrials are also used in this sub-genre relating to our fear of the unknown.
- Gothic: The Gothic sub-genre is not so common today as it was in the days of early cinema, maybe because the modern day person is not so scared of this idea.
- Satanic: Films under this sub-genre include The Exorcism. This idea generally revolves around the idea of evil beings or evil beings inhabiting human bodies.
